Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) July 31, 2007

QSI Corporation’s rugged mobile data terminal (MDT), the VTERM-G55, is now integrated with Pi Star’s PiMobileCADS and PiMobileRAMP product lines, which are used to service the para-transit and home health care industry. The VTERM-G55 in-vehicle terminal allows Pi Star to schedule client pick ups; monitor vehicle mileage, transit times, location and speed; and send and receive messages to and from the driver. Pi Star is able to communicate with the VTERM-G55 in-vehicle terminal via an external GPRS and CDMA modem.

The VTERM-G55 mobile data terminal used by Pi Star uses a graphic display and a keypad to interface with the user. The terminal can be equipped with two EIA-232, -422 or -485 serial ports and/or an Ethernet 10Base-T interface. The VTERM-G55 has a 320×240 pixel, color LCD display measuring 96 mm (3.8″) diagonal. (optional grayscale display available) and is viewable in most lighting conditions. Other features include 24-key or 40-key membrane / steel snap dome keypad with LEDs; 2 Mbytes flash / 16 Mbytes SDRAM; programmable speaker and real-time clock. The VTERM-G55 in-vehicle terminal is ruggedized to withstand the shock, vibration, temperature and humidity environmental extremes common in many vehicle-related applications today.

“QSI’s VTERM-G55 is very rugged and resists the day-to-day use in this demanding environment. Drivers can even spill soda or coffee on terminals, then clean them up and they still work just fine,” says Mr. Tracy Glende, President of Pi Star. “We especially like that the VTERM-G55 is very easy to program, simple to use, and integrates easily with a variety of wireless communication devices.”

The VTERM-G55 mobile data terminal uses an object-based graphic terminal programming language called Qlarity® (pronounced Clarity). Designing a simple control panel interface or a complete stand-alone application has never been easier. The ability to use pre-defined objects, edit existing objects or author your own objects provides flexibility to the novice and expert alike. Qlarity Foundry®, a PC-based design tool, provides a Windows® environment for screen creation, application simulation, debugging and downloading to the VTERM-G55.

“We are delighted that Pi Star has chosen to use our VTERM-G55 terminal as an integral part of their PiMobileCADS and PiMobileRAMP products. Their success with this terminal once again proves that QSI provides world-class mobile data terminals that are rugged, powerful, economical and highly configurable to a wide range of users,” says Tyler Phillips, Vehicle Products Manager at QSI Corporation. “We look forward to helping Pi Star to continue to grow their business.”

Formed originally as an association of mobility equipment dealers in the state of Florida, membership opened on a national level in 1989 and the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association was established. The organization promotes and supports individual members engaged in the modification of quality transportation for people with disabilities. Membership has grown to over 650 members with the bulk of the membership located in the United States and Canada.

NMEDA members adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and follow the NMEDA Guidelines. NMEDA members update the Guidelines, a living document providing detailed recommended practices on equipment installation and modifications, yearly.
The Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is a nationally recognized accreditation program for the mobility equipment industry. The program promotes quality, safety, and reliability within the industry. Some states now require a dealerÂÂ’s participation in the QAP to perform work for the Vocational Rehabilitation Programs. The QAP is the only program of this nature developed for the mobility equipment industry. A QAP designation enhances vehicle modification and mobility equipment installation in a manner consistent with the highest guidelines available in the industry. The states that have adapted the program include South Carolina, Ohio, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico and New York.

Kentucky is pending. Louisiana and North Carolina require QAP or an equivalent.

NMEDA offers QAP workshops, national updates in their Circuit Breaker Newsletter and will hold the 14th Annual Conference, February 9-12, 2005 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The featured speaker is Jeffrey Gitomer. 800-833-0427. www.nmeda.org

Question by Rubix Cube: What do you think so far?
Personalyl I don’t like how it flows but maybe its just me.

Astra buried her face into her forearms as time painfully passed. The hallway was empty except for the occasional janitor that walked by unaware of her. She brought her knees in closer and tried to tu ne out the fact that the floor was so hard she was losing feeling in her butt. Time didn’t even seem to pass as she waited. He had said 3:30, why wasn’t he here yet? She glanced down the hall hoping it was almost 3:30. 3:25. She let out a loud grown as she dragged her hands down her face, stretching her features as though they were clay. Footsteps sounded from around the corner of the dingy hallway. He approached carrying a coffee mug and his usual man-purse.
“So you finally decided to be early for once, Miss Berkley?” Mr. Sampson remarked, not making eye contact with Astra and unlocking the classroom door.
Astra shrugged her shoulders, an action not easily seen though as it was hidden inside her oversized sweatshirt. She hated waiting. For the instances that she did show up, she’d show up late rather than early. Waiting had felt horrible ever since it happened. Waiting to die, the time had seemed to drag on and on. She picked herself up off the floor, dusting mystery dirt from the back of her jeans, and slung her bag over one shoulder. Her feet felt as heavy as lead blocks as she travveled the few metres to enter the classroom. Mr. Sampson was seated at his desk, reclined slightly in his chair and looked in deep thought.
“Take a seat, Astra. This might take a while. And Sterling hasn’t shown up yet. So we’ll have to wait to begin.” Mr. Sampson sighed, and began to search desperatley though his bag.
‘Sterling… it can’t be. It must be a different person’ Astra thought as she took her pick of the empty desks. She watched Mr. Sampson dig through his bag. His bald spot shone brightly as the fluorescent lights hit it and dark rings circled his eyes. His ears stuck out at a pecuilar angle, and his face was weathered more so than it had been months ago. He withdrew his hands from his bag and his head snapped up to the door just as the faint rapping on the wood started. Astra quickly looked away fromtthe door, afraid of who might be waiting on the other side. The hinges of the door creaked as it was thrust open. The teenage boy ambled slowly into the room and a slight smile grew at the corners of his lips as he saw the occupants.
“Sterling, take a seat. We’ve been waiting long enough” Mr. Sampson said, rising from his chair to stand in front of the two students.
Astra focused her eyes on the floor tiles in front of her desk. She couldn’t look at the boy seated next to her, she just couldn’t.
“Now, I understand that you two are having some… difficulties at home.” their teacher began, pacing in front of them. “But that does not allow you to be failing all of your courses! You two are putting the rest of your lives at risk by failing! I have spoken to your past teachers, and have had the same response. Failed. Every single course, last semester. And now every single course this one! I won’t have it happen. With that, in discussion with your other teachers it has been decided, that you two will have one final chance. Together, you will complete this task. And if not I’ll be seeing you next year, again. ”
Mr. Sampson handed them both a booklet of papers. He grabbed his bag, turned off the lights and slammed the classroom door shut.
Difficulties at home. Her arms ached at the thought of what had happened almost a year ago.

Best answer:

Answer by Team Crayons
Yes, it would be safe, just make sure to unplug it after it’s done so the converter doesn’t overheat.

Is Your Mobility Scooters Battery Life Fading?

For some having a mobility product is a gift sent from God. Not only does the mobility scooters allow easier access when shopping, they also allow the peice of mind that I don’t have to stay at home. I can ride around the neighbor saying hello to the kids, make frequent trips to local stores, as well as visit the mailman at the mailbox without struggling to get there and back or waiting for my busy son or daughter to come over. Most physically disabled people will agree that mobility scooters can be priceless.

When I researched the subject more in debt, I found out that the complaint is not the scooters; most are concerned about the battery life. How would you like to know that when you go out for that daily ride or stroll to the park, that you may run out of battery? Here you are stuck in the park or on the road with no communication with anyone, but strangers passing you by looking awkwardly at you wondering what your doing. And to ask for help? Maybe 1 in 5 people will even stop, but eventually you want that one person to help you. However what will you ask them? To take you home? Or, “Would you please take my keys and go into my house and grab the battery charger? And on the way out grab the extension cord…the really long one…?” Well I think this is why they actually invented the cellphone right? NOT! You are stuck! Stuck until you can get home to charge the battery. I’m gonna give you a few tips to insure that your not stuck on the road looking for a stranger to help.

Make sure that when your mobility scooter arrives to your home that you immediately charge the battery for a minimum of 12 to 14 hours, basically overnight before you ever take your new mobility scooter out.
Purchase the necessary extra batteries when you order a mobility scooter. This way you will always have a extra battery with you at all times that is charged to get you back home if your main battery dies.
Completely run your battery down to less than 10% before you re-charge. Try not to go out to the mailbox and then as soon as you get back plug it into the charger. This will kill your battery life sooner.
When purchasing a mobility scooter you can always pay attention to the span of a fully charged battery by reading the specifications before purchase. Click here for an example of the specifications of a Pride Go-Go Elite traveller 3 Wheel Mobility Scooter
Know the range of your scooter. Most manufacturers will list a range, top speed, and weight capacity. All of these factors will come into play when deciding on a mobility scooter and the accessories.
